Continuing to live my dream in Nerja

I am happy to be back home in Nerja for a little while, if only to get caught up on my emails ahah.

After our trip my friend, RaeAnn from Chilliwack and her cousin, Fiona from Scotland were here for 5 days. We had the best talks, lots of laughs, a night of dancing but too many pitchers of sangria at the Blue Med. Joe make them to our liking (helps to know the bar men for sure). We spent a few days on the beach, only walked a little bit around town, did some shopping and had a few meals out. Fiona is Sarah's age and what a sweetheart she is. I hope to visit her someday in Scotland when her man is out working at sea. RaeAnn got me caught up on all the Chilliwack gossip and it was nice to hear how my other friends are really doing. The bonus with RaeAnn here was she totally 'gets me'. Her being a fellow Canadian we could practically finish each other's sentences. I didn't realize how I missed hearing another Canadian voice, but boy did I ever. RaeAnn has emailed me to say she is saving for another trip to Nerja. I think they both enjoyed their time in Spain. I love having company folks so remember the door to my flat is always OPEN.

Basel and I felt we needed a jolt of Spanish so after RaeAnn and Fiona flew to London we headed up to the Las Alpujarra mountains and stayed at our favourite camping place in Orgiva. It is so much fun hanging out with all our Spanish friends and we always meet new people when we go there. We met a couple from France, Kevin and Mary Jane that want us to come and visit them anytime. They are building a house in Orgiva to spend their holidays so we will meet them again for more nights of talking Spanish. They are more advanced so we learned a lot from them. Our friend, Paco has a girlfriend and we hit it off with Ana and her daughter, Rocio right away. We spent one whole day playing in the pool.

This week we were way up in the mountains near Velez-Málaga where Yvonne's dad has a beautiful home even with the driveway at a 20 degree incline . Yvonne, my young German friend had a bbq, where we met her Australian friends and a two of our teachers at the Spanish school were invited as well. Basel was in his glory as he ended up cooking while the rest of us monitored the coals while drinking our cerbeza or wine. It was a lovely evening with great conversation but a scary walk down the hill to the van in flip flops.

Next week and before Basel starts work, he and I are travelling to Ronda, Cordoba, Seville and over to Portugal. One of my dreams has always been to see Portugal since Earla and Michel were there 20 years ago. The trip won't cover too many miles so we will be able to relax and see the sites at a leisurely pace. I seriously now have the travel bug engrained in me. When I get a real job, I know where my money will be go. Definitely in my travel fund to save for my next trip.

We will return at the end of August as I am moving to a different flat on the 29th. It is closer to Burriana Beach (2 minute walk), has 2 bedrooms and a pull out sofa (sleeps 6), large windows facing a small mountain littered with beautiful white-washed houses and a view of the Mediterranean Sea. There are also flowerbeds loaded with plants and that I can add anything I want to them (I still miss gardening a lot). Also the rent is cheaper, bonus. Another bonus with this flat is that it has a huge mulit-level patio for Lucy to run around and for to be able to entertain my friends with total privacy. My landlords Annie (from Belgium) and Pepe (Spanish) have lived in Nerja 18 years and Annie has promised to speak with me only in Spanish. I have met them a few times now and I know we will get along fine and dandy.

Well family and friends, I hope my last few entries didn't have too many details, but as you know, I use this blog as part of my journalling. I haven't got time to do separate one and hope you all understand.

Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone and I hope it is cooler there than here (40 degrees the other day). It has cooled off to about 32 which feels only 28 because of the breeze off the sea. When it was 40ish this Canadian needs her 3 hour siesta. When in Spain do as the Spanish do I say. ahah

I know I say this every time in my blog entries, and it still holds true.... I miss each and every one of you for different reasons and I am grateful you are all still in my life even though I am on the other side of the world. Email me when you can, I love hearing how you are all doing. I will add our trip pictures in an entry by itself, easier that way.

Adios familía y mis amigos,
Leigh-Ann
